Pink October Run serve as one of the major highlights of the month-long celebration of breast cancer awareness. It is an effort to raise awareness and reduce the stigma of breast cancer though education on symptoms and treatment – wikipedia. The event is organized by the Philippine Society of General Surgeons-Cebu and Eastern Visayas Chapter (PSGS-CEV). The footrace is also supported by the Icanserve Foundation and the Rotary Club of Cebu 3860 which field in around a hundred runners.
Women in NCR (WIN) has been actively supporting this cause for the past years. Check out NCR last years’ activity here.
Runners in symbolic pink race shirts converge at the Terraces of Ayala Center Cebu where the race started and ended. A short warm-up zumba session is setup before the race starts. There are three race lengths, the 12-kilometer, 6k and 3k with registration pegged at Php400 inclusive for race shirt. There are no cash prizes but there are prizes at stake for the top performers of the event plus the “pinkest” runners among the participants. The race started at 5:30AM by the 12k runners. Followed by the 6k and 3k with an interval of 5 minutes on each distances.
Race route is around Cebu Business Park. Marshalls is assigned on each corner. Several water and Pocari sweat station on the way where we can hydrate ourselves. Freebies have been offered at the terraces right after the race – coffee, bread, etc. There was a free Photobooth as well.
A full Zumba was also organized right after the race. It was such a good way to relax and to feel better after a long run/walk.
The program was culminated by an awarding of the top finisher on each category. And hey! Maria Louise Binangbang from the NCR runners club got the top 5 spot on the 6k category. Cheers to that!
After the event, the WINners then decided to have breakfast at McDonalds. We enjoyed our company, we talk several stuffs and activities and ended up with a plan to try Xy-na’s sport – Dragon boat. Dragon boat is a human-powered watercraft. It is a team sport in its purest form that encompasses the elements of power, speed, synchronization and endurance. Xy-na is being part of a team for quite some time competing with different teams in Philippines and in Asia. The first 3 dragon boat session is offered for free. So why not try? There’s no harm on trying anyway.
We schedule our dragon boat try out this coming November 5, 2016. For those who wanted to join us, feel free to message Xy-na Estrella or any WIN BOD in NCR. It’s going to be a FUN and EXCITING activity and we would love to have a great number with us. 🙂
